Terms of Use (Internal Users)
These terms and conditions (“Terms”) apply to your use of BT’s Idea Lab (“Idea Lab”). They supplement existing BT employment obligations, confidentiality duties, and acceptable use policies.
By using Idea Lab, you agree to these Terms.
- Purpose of the Platform
The Idea Lab supports BT’s innovation processes by enabling employees to submit ideas, participate in challenges, collaborate and contribute to innovation projects.
Use of Idea Lab must always align with BT policies, including the Code of Conduct and any relevant business security requirements.
- Registration and Account Use
2.1. You must use your BT identity and keep your account secure.
2.2. All activity on Idea Lab must comply with BT’s internal systems and data use rules.
2.3. BT may suspend or remove inactive accounts.
2.4. BT may update these Terms or any Platform‑related internal policies from time to time, and you are required to comply with the latest version as a condition of continued use of the Platform.
- Your Contributions (ideas, content, uploads)
3.1. You are responsible for all content you submit and must ensure it complies with BT policy and applicable law.
3.2. Any content, ideas, documents, or materials you submit as part of your employment (“Contributions”) are treated as BT intellectual property under your contract of employment and BT’s internal IP policies. BT may freely use, modify, develop, analyse, distribute, or commercialise your Contributions without additional permission or compensation.
3.3. You must ensure Contributions do not infringe third‑party rights or contain unauthorised third‑party materials.
3.4. BT has no obligation to adopt or respond to any Contribution.
3.5. BT may review, remove, restrict or reclassify any Contributions where this is required for business, legal, confidentiality or compliance reasons.
3.6. BT may already be developing, or may independently develop, ideas, products or services that are similar to or compete with Contributions submitted through the Platform.
- Confidentiality
4.1. All Contributions, content, and information on Idea Lab are BT confidential information.
4.2. You must not disclose or share them outside BT unless expressly authorised.
4.3. You must not upload content obtained under NDA or from external parties without proper internal approval.
4.4. Idea Lab may contain content submitted by external innovation partners or third parties. Such content must be treated as confidential and may also be subject to additional contractual or confidentiality restrictions notified to you by BT.
4.5. Access to Contributions and other content on Idea Lab may be restricted by BT depending on user role, project, or business requirements.
- Personal Data
5.1. BT processes personal data you provide (e.g., name, email, usage data) in accordance with BT’s employee privacy notices.
5.2. Do not upload personal data of customers, partners, or other third parties unless permitted under BT data protection governance.
- Acceptable Use
You must not use Idea Lab to:
- upload unlawful, offensive, harmful, or misleading content,
- interfere with operation of the Platform,
- circumvent access controls,
- breach BT security, confidentiality, or data protection policies.
Misuse may result in suspension of access, disciplinary action, or both.
- BT Content
All BT materials on Idea Lab are the property of BT. You may use them only for legitimate business purposes.
- Availability and Changes
Idea Lab may be unavailable at times due to maintenance or operational needs.
BT may update or discontinue features at any time.
- No Warranties / Liability
Idea Lab is provided “as is.” Nothing in these Terms limits BT’s liability where this cannot be limited by law.
- Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
